Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo are planning to marry in April.

The former ‘The Newlyweds’ star who divorced Jessica Simpson last year has proposed to the MTV presenter and she is telling friends to keep April free.

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: “They’re moving forward with plans for an April wedding. Since they both love Baja in Mexico it will probably happen south of the border, where they first fell in love. When he married Jessica, Nick had a big splashy Texas wedding with all the trimmings.”

“It kicked off their highly rated MTV reality series ‘Newlyweds’ and began their life in a fishbowl. This time he wants something a lot simpler, so they decided on a low-key affair.”

The source added: “Nick’s known for a long time that Vanessa is the one. At first she held out. But in time she began to realise Nick was the key to her happiness and couldn’t imagine like without him. Vanessa feel’s she’s got Nick just where she wants him. Jessica is finally out of the picture for good. And now the two of them are ready to begin making a new life together.”

Nick Lachey and girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo make no mistake about their romance as they share a New Year’s kiss. Nick has been dating TV presenter Vanessa for eight months, while Jessica has been linked to Grammy award-winning singer John Mayer.

There is a rumor that Vanessa Minillo has been fired from her TRL stint due to her crazy antics during the New Year’s Eve bash Sunday night. Whether its true or not we will just have to see! But anyway they look cute together, slowly but surely. I cant say the same about Jessica.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have resolved the splitting of their assets, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE.

It officially brings their divorce to a complete close; they were legally free to marry others in June. Details of the settlement were not disclosed.

Simpson and Lachey were married in 2002 and starred together in the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. They split in November 2005; Simpson filed for divorce that December.

Jessica, who decamped to her own Beverly Hills mansion, has kept busy with music and movie work. She has spent the past few months shooting her latest film, Blonde Ambition, in Shreveport, La.

Nick, who is scheduled to host a party at Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas on Saturday night, spent his time since the split renovating a Bel Air bachelor pad and amping up his music career with the gold-selling album What’s Left of Me and a nationwide tour.

He’s also found love again with MTV’s TRL host Vanessa Minnillo whom he’s been dating for eight months.
